In Shared Reading we have started learning about certain authors during our "Author Studies". We just finished up an author study on David Shannon. We watched a video where David explained how he came up with the stories and how he makes mistakes all the time, just like us! We are now starting an author study on Kevin Henkes.
Here are some of the David Shannon books we enjoyed:

In Math our learning target is "I can add and subtract fluently within 10". We have been learning strategies for adding and subtracting 0 and counting up and counting back for 1, 2, and 3. The two strategies we have learned so far are : Fist It and Touch Points. Next week we will be learning other strategies like doubles, near doubles, and others.
In Science we learned the steps in the Scientific Method while working on two experiments. The first experiment was: Which liquid would help an apple slice to not turn brown?-milk, water, lemon juice or soda. The second experiment was: How many drops of water will fit on a penny?

In Social Studies we have been working on Rules and Laws. The students have learned specifically what a rule and law is and why we have them (to keep us safe/to keep things fair). We even had a police officer come in and present to us about rules and laws!
We have been learning all about our Learning/Literacy Centers (sometimes I refer to them as their Literacy Jobs) for a while now. While students go to their literacy jobs, I will be at the back table working with small groups on letter sounds/ spelling/reading fluency/comprehension, etc. It is extremely important that each student is independent with their job at this time so I can give my attention to each small group. We just starting actually practicing our jobs Friday, but so far so good!
We kicked off our APEX fundraiser! This is an awesome fundraiser that the kids love and each day the Apex team members come to our class and teach us a lesson about being engaged, participating, learning, etc. It's awesome! So please get those pledges in to help our school earn money for playground equipment and to help our classroom earn money also!
